From 20.9 to 5.7 °C, weather is not climate
On Friday, it was T-shirt weather; on Monday morning, coats came out. This cold snap says nothing about global warming. The trend is read over thirty years, and it is rising.

In Parc Montsouris, in the 14th arrondissement, the temperature has been recorded since June 1872, without a single break. It is the oldest series in France, and it has seen everything, -23.9 °C on 10 December 1879, 42.6 °C on 25 July 2019.
On Friday at 2:23 pm, the Paris-Montsouris station recorded 20.9 °C, more than four degrees above the October normal. On Sunday morning, 7.2 °C, and on Monday at 8 am, 5.7 °C. In between, warm air from Morocco gave way to air from high latitudes, and a cut-off low settled over France. The cold did not fall all at once during the night. At 2 am it was still 9.2 °C, and the lowest point came in the early morning.
A chilly night, not a record
No record fell, as the normal October minimum at Montsouris is 9.9 °C. That is weather, what it is like this week, changing from one day to the next with the air masses. Climate is something else, the average of that weather over thirty years. And it is rising. Over 1991-2020, the October average at Montsouris is 13.2 °C. October 2026 is still, up to the 17th, 2.7 °C above normal in Paris, according to provisional readings. This summer was the hottest ever measured in France, and September the second hottest since 1900. Does a coat taken out on Sunday make us forget a scorching summer?
