On Monday 19 October, "France is burning" was on the front page of Iranian newspapers. Tehran denounced police repression and called on Paris to listen to its young people.
In Washington, Donald Trump called on France to close its borders. Official Russian voices also blamed immigration. In Europe, Paris’s allies kept quiet, apart from far-right leaders who see one more argument against migration.

London looks in the mirror
The British papers take "no more pleasure" in seeing France in this state: London shares the same cost-of-living and debt crisis. For El País’s correspondent, 17 October marked "the death of Macronism". The peaceful rallies, for their part, have almost vanished from our international colleagues’ account. Those big channels also air imprecise footage, sometimes unrelated to the events of recent days.
