1.6 million lives
Six measures against the health effects of climate change would avoid 1.6 million deaths a year, the WHO calculates. The same day, four Red Cross trucks entered besieged Taiz, Bob Dylan gave the Pope his memoirs, and 55 Santas received their diplomas in Rio.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus set out the figure on Wednesday, in Geneva: 1.6 million deaths avoided every year if states apply six measures, starting with the phase-out of fossil fuels, which alone would spare a million lives. “The climate crisis is a health crisis,” says the WHO chief. Every dollar invested would return 24.80.
Four trucks for Taiz
In Taiz, Yemen, the country’s third city, encircled by the Houthis since October, four ICRC trucks got through on Wednesday, the first since 23 September: surgical kits for the gunshot wounded. “This aid cannot meet all the needs,” warns spokesman Hashem Osseiran.
A rosary, 55 beards
At the Vatican, Leo XIV received Bob Dylan, 85: a rosary in exchange for “Chronicles”, his memoirs, before Thursday night’s concert in Rome. And in Rio, 55 white-bearded gentlemen, trained for a month in acting, diction and sign language, received their Santa Claus diplomas at the foot of Christ the Redeemer. A report, four trucks, a rosary, 55 beards: which of these stories warms you up?
